The craft

What makes English captions hard.

  1. 01

    Word timing

Speech models time words loosely: in our tests, a third or more of word highlights landed early. Captions feel off even when the text is right.

  2. 02

    Indian English

Names, places and the odd Hindi word trip up models trained mostly on American speech. You need a transcript you can fix in seconds.

  3. 03

    Captions that look designed

Default subtitle fonts look like a TV broadcast. Reels need bold, readable type that still suits your brand.

How Fontreel handles it

  • Transcription with Whisper large-v3 turbo on Groq: 10.8% of words wrong in our test.
  • A separate alignment step times every word against the audio, so the highlight lands when the word is spoken.
  • 13 typefaces, and a mixed Hindi and English video can use a different font for each script.
  • The preview and the export use the same caption renderer, so what you see is what you download.

Fonts that fully support this script: Montserrat, Poppins, Anton, Bebas Neue, Oswald, Inter, Bangers, Noto Sans Devanagari, Noto Sans Gujarati, Hind, Mukta, Baloo 2, Hind Vadodara.

Accuracy measured on 5 real 30–45 s clips per language, one speaker, reading prepared scripts; a small test, so treat it as a guide.

Questions

About English captions.

Does it handle Hindi words in English speech?

If you mix Hindi and English, choose Hinglish: Hindi words are written in Devanagari and English words stay in English letters. Fontreel also detects the language automatically when you upload.

Can I get an SRT file too?

Yes. Every export comes with an SRT subtitle file, so you can also upload captions separately to YouTube or other platforms.

Can I correct mistakes?

Yes. Tap any word in the transcript to fix its spelling; its timing stays the same. You can also split or join captions.
